June 9, 2004 Email Update

Dear SFOrdinance List members,

I have just heard from the Dr. Johnson Ojo, who is working on the implementation of the new massage ordinance. The Department of Public health is hosting a public information meeting on June 28th.

DATE: Monday, June 28th, 2004
TIME: 9:30 - 11:30 am
PLACE: Department of Public Health, 101 Grove St, Room 300

Please plan on being there. It will be your only opportunity to hear from and ask questions of the DPH staff in a public forum before the new massage ordinance takes effect on July 1st.

Also, please take a moment to forward this email to any of your colleagues who practice massage in San Francisco. Encourage the school you graduated from and the spa you work for to send a representative. There will be no better opportunity to find out the specifics of how DPH will handle the permitting process for massage practitioners and massage businesses. Topics sure to be covered will include:

  • The application process for practitioners who hold a current permit as well as practitioners who have never had a permit.
  • The difference between a General Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner.
  • The criminal background check requirement.
  • The written exam.
  • Who is exempt from the permitting process.
  • The new Solo Practitioner Massage Establishment permit.
  • The new fee structure.

Remember to tell your friends that they can sign up for these information updates directly by going to www.sfordinance.com. There they can also download a copy of the new ordinance and look at the new pricing structure.

See you a week from Monday!

In touch,
David Palmer
